My son is getting larger. He invents words, wears running shoes that twinkle when he jumps, and has a natural curiosity and rapture with the environment.
The winter has come and gone without too much distress this year. More snow than usual ... I think up in the Cascade Mountains something like 20 feet of the stuff.
The plum trees are starting to bud, and the sun is warming up.

Will and I just returned from a long walk along Nile Creek, not far from here.
The water was very high, higher than I've seen it before. We've had an exceptionally long and stormy winter, and the rains are still here.
It will be good when it starts getting warm again. I wonder if I'll be missing the rain any time soon. |

Spring is here. Eight centimeters of snow in the Fraser Valley.
I planted too early, deceived by a short stint of double digit temperatures.
The herring boats have come and gone, thousands of seagulls swarming about them like moths around a lamp post.
I played my first round of golf the ohther day. Shot a 96. Ouch.
A lot of the big trees up at the course had blown down over the winter, what with the crazy wind storms we had in November, December and February.
Honestly, sometimes I think my vegetable garden may become a prime occupation. |

As I was out walking with my son and my dogs this morning, I had a hard time imagining all the change taking place in our world these days.
Sometimes, it's all you can do to just have a good day and enjoy what's in front of you. In fact, those are the better days.
The fog has lifted of course now, and the sun made a brief but gratifying appearance this week. The Pacific Northwest is a gray place in winter, trust me.
Now it's time to get some veggies seeded and ready for planting come springtime. |

It's been foggy here for almost a week. Pretty strange. We had wind storms, 10 of them this winter. Again, very unusual.
But the fog sure lifted when I saw Al Gore's movie tonight. You should see it.
